Description
This is an SEO oriented plugin aimed to discourage backlink building SPAM in e107 powered websites by automatically inserting an rel="nofollow" attribute to posted links in comment, chat, forum and other areas.
Links with an rel="nofollow" attribute generates no positive benefit for the poster in terms of PageRank (or other search engine value).
What is nofollow?
Nofollow is an attribute value (proposed by Google in 2005) that can be added to a hyperlink. It is used with the rel=" " attribute in a hyperlink.
Why use it?
According to Google blog "From now on, when Google sees the attribute (rel="nofollow") on hyperlinks, those links won't get any credit when we rank websites in our search results." - Jan, 2005
Critisism
Despite Google's and other web search providers' backing of the 'nofollow concept' there are some strong critisism about its use among webmasters. It is upto you to try out, research and decide to use or not to use it on your e107 site.
Features
- Admin can omit this plugin's action on selected pages same way as menu visibility works in e107.
- Admin can optionally omit certain domains from being made nofollow.
- All internal links are left out (from being made nofollow).
- Additional option to make links nofollow while posting (which saves user posted links in the database with an rel="nofollow" attribute when turned on). This feature works only on users who have the permission to post html on the site.
- Logs the number of links made nofollow while posting(the above mentioned feature)and shows it in the admin area (in plugin status section).
